We've finally broken ground.

And, you guessed it. We couldn't have picked a worse week to have done it with the weather.

We've battled a storm, 40kmph winds and bogs bigger than Butlins  but we've made progress on creating hardstanding access points onto the land, using recycled stone.

It may not seem as exciting as rearing baby piglets or chasing escaped sheep, and it's not. But, it's vital to ensure we can unload and load stock for transporting safely.

Our son Roman thoroughly enjoyed being on site with us, during that one hour it didn't rain. And with him there, we did learn a few things along the way:

  • Never leave the keys in the ignition of the digger as, thanks to Blippi, 2 year olds do know how to operate them, and are better at it than most 40 year old men.

  • Whoever said women can't drive was talking absolute bollocks. Ladies, if you can drive a car, you can drive a dumptruck. Just got to stay in 1st gear all day.

  • Invest in some good waterproofs, as if you do fall on your arse at the start of the day, at least when you meet the new neighbours you won't look like you've sh*t yourself.

It's been a week, but we did manage to finish both entrances this afternoon, just in time for the arrival of our neighbours flock tomorrow!

Christ, and what fun that's going to be shifting them through 10 ton of mud to get to the good stuff, the grass! Best pack spare pants this time, just in case.

Further updates coming soon.
